In Middle School, students build on the foundations laid in the Lower School (LS) and continue to develop competencies for greater independence in learning.

An expanded curriculum programme provides the structure for in-depth learning within each subject area, whilst continuing to allow students to grow in interdisciplinary conceptual understanding and inquiry skills through the subject of Learning Through Research (LTR).

Although a personalised and/or adapted programme may be offered to cater for a child’s specific needs, students in Middle School are offered the following subjects:

Learning trough research (LTR)

LTR is the subject with the largest time allocation, unifies and potentiates the Middle School program at CLIP by encouraging students to understand beyond the other, being critical thinkers, improving metacognitive awareness and building empathy.

The LTR programme:

  • Facilitates development of empathy and personal codes of ethics
  • Builds an age appropriate understanding of global issues
  • Builds respect and value for diversity of opinion and culture
  • Develops CLIP21 competences and conflict resolution skills
  • Encourages students to accept differences more readily both in and outside of the classroom
  • Aids the discovery of internationally-minded humanistic ideals

In teams of students from different year-groups (from Form 6 to Form 8), students in LTR learn through methodologies and approaches which incorporate:

  • Cooperative learning
  • Problem-based learning
  • Inquiry-driven learning
  • Concept-based learning
  • Understanding by Design

By exploring and synergizing various methodologies and approaches for deeper learning, through LTR students will nurture and deepen their view of the world and see oneself as a responsible member of the local community and as a global citizen.
